When it’s ladies night out for my wife and her friends, I always have a movie night with our two daughters. We pop in a DVD, make some popcorn, and hunker down for the evening.
Last night was no exception. We had just started the movie and gotten comfortable on the couch, when my youngest daughter let out a scream, pointing her finger at the floor. Crawling along the floor was a brown cockroach, about an inch in length. With two girls that were afraid of cockroaches, I knew I had to keep an eye on it while I got up and got something to kill it with.
Very shortly, our creepy, crawling visitor was no more. As I took him out to the backyard, I wondered how it had gotten inside. That was the third cockroach in the house this week! And luckily the girls hadn’t seen the other two or there would have been a lot more screaming.
The next morning after telling my wife about the incident, we decided to call our local Terminix Pest Professionals. Since we didn’t know how they were getting in, we needed to talk to someone who did! Our pest professional Robby gave us some great advice about that I’d like to pass along to you now.
Check out these great tips for keeping cockroaches out of your homes:
- Change your exterior lighting to yellow “bug” lights. This can help reduce the number of cockroaches attracted to your home.
- Seal as many exterior cracks as possible and ensure that all foundation and attic vents have tight-fitting screens.
- Remove leaf piles, woodpiles, and other harborages. This helps minimize the potential number of cockroaches near your home.
